Dropped From SE - Affiliates Ranking For My Term

I'm getting quite worried that I've been dropped by search engines.

EXAMPLES:

My domain is example.com
Most pages have some reference to my site being called <example>
Most of my back links have the anchor text <example>

Despite all this, typing the keywords <example> in to search engines, my site is nowhere to be seen. I understand other sites have the same keywords and they're going to rank higher. But sites I've affiliated with are popping up referencing my site. Even my url comes up but its on an affiliates page.

All other sites remotely related to <example> show up, but my site is the only real site about <example>.

I cant help but feeling like I may have been dropped for this term. I'm sure I came up first for the term within a week of having the site but now it's gone.

Its not a big deal but a lot of returning visitors will put that in the search engine to find me.

<example> = Two word phrase that matches domain.

The other sites will probably continue to outrank you for almost every term your site might otherwise rank for , including its own name, for a considerable time,

They probably have far more link popularity than you

Their domains have been indexed longer in the SE's

An Affiliates tend to be rather good at Search engine Optimisation

You've got a lot of work to do, but the good news is that you've arrived at the right place,

do a lot of reading thru these forums

Cheers
