How do sites like Flickr handle the dynamic URL issue?

Hi,

I'm about to set up a large website with a social networking section and photo galleries. The site will be entirely based on database driven PHP scripts.

Since I know dynamic URL's aren't very good from a SEO point of view, I'm trying to find a solution for making them static.

I've checked out a few large established sites, and for example Flickr do have static URLs. Do anyone have an idea how they and other similar sites handle this?

I'm pretty sure it isn't mod_rewrite.

Thanks!

Hello jakobh, and welcome to the fourm.

There are many ways to script a url rewriting scheme - depending on the server technology mostly, and secondarily on the needs of the business. What Flickr uses I can't say, and it may or may not be a good fit for you, at any rate.

This topic is VERY frequently discussed here - try our Site Search [webmasterworld.com] to come up with some beginning research.
