I recently started a .com and was wondering if it would be worth it to also register a .ca and/or .uk to attract business from these corresponding countries via Search Engines.

Let me see if I can explain this.

my example.com has my products for sale. While I thought of creating a .ca/.uk for either

1. Direct Sale with no link to the .com

2. When a potential customer clicks on the .ca its redirected to the .com

What problems might I run into with these options?

Thanks

If you're going to attempt to open up a geo local site, your best bet, in my opinion, is creating a totally independent site for each country:

What's important search engine wise for country specific:

1. Country specific TLD.
2. Hosted inside the country (Canada - Canadian web host, UK - UK web host).
3. Links from country specific sites.

Technical wise it's not so difficult to pull the same information from a database for different sites - you'll need to adjust shipping and pricing for local prices.

Good luck!
