Submission of a new website

We are launching a UK trade directory website on a 4 year old domain and I'm wondering who all it is best to submit to. Our current websites get most of their traffic from Google and I've used the webmaster tool to point it at the new site. In years gone by we used to also pay for inclusion on then Yahoo and MSN directories. Now I see you can only submit to the US Yahoo directory for a recurring $299 and MSN do not seem to have a paid inclusion.

Paid inclusion isn't a problem - we want traffic as soon as poss (without any ppc advertisinig).

Any suggestions?

Cheers

Manually submit the site to all the major search engines:

Google, Yahoo, Ask, alltheweb etc.

There are a massive number of alternate directories out there.

Plus, there is no reason why you can't ad a few links to your new site from your other sites in the same niche, plus you might request links from related sites.

Search engines do not priortise manually submitted site, i did it quite a lot with little impact, infact even when they eventually listed the sites I submitted, they took only the homepage an nothing else, for a long long time, till i caught on an started building link relationships with directories an other sites.

all the internet is a web :)

Correct in fact they prefer to find sites themselves. Don't submit; get links.

Hi,

If I want to get a new site/section indexed, I write a little news item about it on the front page of my PR6 site and G has started indexing the new site within a day or two whenever I've checked. I assume Y! and M$ would similarly be hungry for new sites linked from known/trusted ones.

Rgds

Damon

PS. Yes, G indexed my new site within about a day, visible in G with a cache date of yesterday.
