Optimizing a site built in Flash?

Hi,

I am optimizing a website which is totally designed by FLASH.
I just want to know that does flash affect the site ranking and if yes in which aspect it affects?

Some search engine spiders can recognize the text contained within a Flash file, albeit in a limited way.

Other than that, when talking about optimizing a Flash-based site, it usually equates with building a HTML version as an alternative to the main Flash one.

We are one here - a HTML version will increase your SERP hits by no doubt. So go for it.

I implied that any body that is at all serious about SEO should not bother with FLASH and if they do choose to then they should include a HTML version.

I read somewhere recently (Stundubl, I think?) about an interesting SEO tactic for flash sites. They were using cloaking to send all SE spiders to a text-based version of the flash page. The two pages are identical content-wise, and changes to the flash version are reflected in the html version on the fly.

The html version wasn't accessible for users, the company was insistent on having a pretty flash site. I'd be a little worried about a red-flag from Google, but it seems pretty legit.
