I am new to web building let alone optimising...

I have two domains that are not in use. One is a year old with a PR3 and one is 6 months old with a pr0.
Which domain would you use to get into the top ten faster once optimised? Would the pr 3 be faster once keyword optimisation and backlinking starts? Or would it be jsut the same to use the pr0 site?

personally I would go with

the most memorable or descriptive domain name

2) the domain with the most relevant pages linking to it

3) PR value (least importance)

If that is really your question, and the new site is even vaguely related to whatever was/is there that got it to a PR3, go with that one. It's less about the PR than about the time online. PR3 is just evidence of standing.

If your goals are more long term, then I agree with simey. Go with the better domain.

Such a hard choice lol The domain with no previous PR is the most suitable name. What do you recon the difference in time scale will be between the two sites?

p.s. the domain with no pr is the name of my brand e.g. (joe brand . com) not the specific 'car' widgets I sell where as the domain with pr3 is very loosely based on car widgets...its more like discountvehiclewidgets. com rather than specifically carwidgest .com

Well, your question was which would help you rank faster. That is different from which you should use if one is your brand and the other a PR3. In that case, I'd absolutely forgo the short term traffic and build up the branded domain. No brainer IMHO.
