How micro and mega site helps?

I work for a company who have their Ecommerce website. Recently they decided to start SEO works to get pagerank and also listed in organic search result. I am recently working for them and you can say a bit newer to SEO. We have got some best selling products and thinking to make microsite for them where every single page have a back link to our main website. My question to everyone here having good knowledge of SEO that

1. Are Micro and Mega sites helps to improve PR as well as divert traffic to main site?

2. Do you think only doing Onpage optimisation will increase PR from 0 to PR 3/4? where microsite will have only one HTML page contains information about one product.

3. Is a back link from a website with say PR5 rank is equal to 10 links from same website? or it would be count as 10 separate links

I will be grateful if you would help me to overcome from these confusions.

I should humbly suggest you are approaching this from the wrong angle. Page rank is irrelevant. Traffic and more importantly conversions (into sales) are what counts.

What should be the point, for example, of tricking a search engine into delivering millions of visitors to your site who think they are looking for pictures of Paris Hilton nude, they will only leave without purchasing your product.

If your site is targeted at your customers (rather than search engine algorithms and robots), it will succeed.
