I am working at updating and optimizing my sites' meta tags and I was wondering if anyone knew how long it takes the major SEs to update this information in the SERPs. I believe that Google sometimes receives this information from DMOZ, so it doesn't necessarily matter when the Googlebot comes by. Is there any way to expedite the inclusion of this info in the SERPs?

To be honest search engines are a lot more interested in the content on your page as opposed to the meta information in your header. It's mostly about content now.

Of course. However, the sites had some issues with the site descriptions that were coming up in the SERPs. My question is very specifically about the updated title tags and descriptions showing up in the SERPs... not how to best promote in the SEs.

search engines take around 2 weeks time to crawl pages with the new description. It happens regularly in my case. I believe it has this time as a measure to know the updates in any site probably calculating the ratio of the time taken to the content updated in the site, and probably ignores small changes in the site to large extent.

And if you take web directories into consideration, You really need to observe the crawl of a particular category page, but that is out of question, considering that most sites are submitted to many directories.

Both the threads give interesting information to carry on your research.
