I have a new website (2 or 3 months old) and since that time I have been reading up on this site and others too about SEO.
I just wanted to get an impression from you all to see if I am on the right track or not with promoting my site.
Eventually I would like to be in the first few results of google for my search term, which isn't particulary competitive. My top 3 competitors sites have between 200 and 500 incoming links each (according to yahoo) and a few hundred pages.
So far I have manually submitted to many search engines and directories, been writing articles on my site and been link building. I am getting spidered daily by Google, Yahoo and others etc..
I have opted to use only white hat tactics in my campaign.
I have optimised my site regarding keywords, site structure, URL rewriting.
So my questions are:
have I covered all of the basics here?
what kind of time frame must I wait before I see results?
I know people are saying here that Google PR is overrated, but it would be nice to move off "zero"
All of my competitors have been around for at least a couple of years and have got into DMOZ. How can I follow up on my submission? Do I just have to be patient?
It would be nice to get your feedback.
Many thanks in advance.
Ben
As to how long it will take to see results, that will vary. It could be a matter of weeks or months before you see your site getting closer to the top.
If your competitors' sites have been ranking well for a long time, it's going to take time and effort to get ahead of them. Seniority has its advantages.
When you submit your site to DMOZ, make a note of which category you submit to. Wait at least six months. If your site isn't in the directory by then, go to the DMOZ forum, go to the forum for your category, and ask the editor politely how long it will take before your site is included.
While you're waiting, keep adding more good content.
If you've done everything right, and your niche isn't too competitive, you should do very well.
