Micro sites. to have or not to have

I have a site that is huge. over 2000 products that are related within an industry but unrelated to each other.

In other words, buyers fo widget A are not interested in Widget B or C.

A friend is suggesting heavily to me that I break out into micro sites.

Sites that are themed similar but contain products of only one category and under it's own domain.

NO duplicate content. Just a network of sites that all link to each other selling different products.

Any pointers?

Having specific site for specific categories is better but only if you are able to manage all them!
In this way you can have more position in search engines and create entrance barrier because you can simulate more competitors or the big strength of your company.

Start with another site... just one! :)

Thanks for the advice. I think I will certainly try this!
