Hello everyone,

My first time here. Do i have to tell you that this community is tightly packed with knowledge? Great stuff!

I've red a lot about importance of the "content" in developing a site and i know a little by myself but few days ago i saw a web site with two pages(index.htm and links.htm) with external linkage to several standalone pages... with a PR4 ... two pages, virtualy no content and links page containing some links...

How is that possible?
I guess i will never understand that PR story ...

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, nervo!

PR has no relation to content, or rather, no direct relation. PR is simply the result of a mathematical computation on the number and "weight" of the links pointing to a page.

In the ideal world links are earned by quality of content, so in theory a site with excellent content attracts a large number of links and hence earns a high PR. This ideal world does exist, to a large extent, in the non-commercial sector of the web.

In the commercial sector PR is almost entirely the result of hard work on aquiring links. Much link-swapping takes place, and it is even alleged that cash occasional is discretely passed. So PR has little relation to content.

Welcome to WW

PageRank is assigned to individual pages that have links to them coming from somewhere. Google doesn't discriminate as to how small a site may be or how much content it has when it comes to assigning PR. Of course overall SE rankings will be better for sites with more content & pages.

Do a link command (link:www.theirsite.com)to find out where this site(page) gets its PageRank.

PageRank info:

whoops beat me to it. Happy 1000 Mohamed_E :)
