What makes people come back?

Assuming you had a community of users - in fact, a userbase of over 10,000.

What features would YOU put on your site to encourage regular visits?

IE

Games?
Video Uploads?
Blogs?
Forum?

well it depends entirely on what your site is about/the demographics of your users ...

eg, i don't think older people are that interested in games, but teens seem to be.

i think somekind of forum suits all ages but is harder work.

It very much depends on the type of site/users. If its an informational website then it needs to be timely, reliable, and the info easily accessible.

For a forum, it depends a lot on the topic. But it needs current knowledgable posters and it needs to be active (but not too active). In other words, when a person comes back there should be enough new there for them to look at but not so much new that they give up trying to read it.

for a forum --- look at Webmaster World ( as a forum) and understand why it is so successful.

Knowledgeable posters, New information, troubleshooting, experiments shared , Qualified moderators etc etc..

My nine-year old daughter regularly goes back to the CBBC web site so that she can tend the animals in her care in the Zoo. It's a sort of online game, a virtual zoo.

As for me, I reguarly go back to webmasterworld to see what's new and changed.
