I will be placing a web directory on my site(like yahoo) . What kinda effect will this have on my sites overall pagerank? Will it drain the pagerank?

You will transfer more PR to the directory pages and less to the other links listed on your home page. For example, if you had 6 links before, but will have 46 with the directory, the PR must be divided among the larger number of links.
If the other site content is more important from a search standpoint, perhaps you could include a single prominent "directory" link on the home page instead of a category listing.

what is if i provide all the links and use javascript so that the pagerank is not leaked to the dir pages?
