As far as SEO is concerned doesnt this hampers/impacts rankings?

You are correct - that's one of the issues we are working with since we renamed the forums. Overall, the renaming has been a help for end users, though. Search engines are free to do as they will - filter one version out in most cases.
Because we do not use a database, we have some different "issues" here than most sites do.
