.biz extensions?

All - I have a client that owns a *very* good keyword rich .Biz extension name.

Are they ranking well?

I just don't see them that often!

Anybody?

If the question is whether .BIZ domains are penalised in some way over other extensions, the answer's a simple no.

In general searches, .BIZ domains are dealt with in the same way as .COM and other top level domains. The reason for not seeing them in the SERPS too often is purely down to there being relatively few .BIZ domains compared to the number of .COMs and the like.

I haven't noticed .biz in the SERPs much but I do regularly see it in spam. In fact, I've noticed that email spam tends to be loaded with words that have the have "s" substituted with "z". I don't know why but lots of spammers seem preoccupied with the letter z. IMHO, .biz is a little tacky, kind of like the tinsel and plastic pennants in used car lots.

That's just my personal opinion. I don't know how many other people might agree.

Although not penalised in the search stakes, there's definately a perception that .BIZ is - for want of a better description - a second class domain.

In terms of spam, there certainly seems to be a disproportionately large amount of junk mail eminating from a comparatively small pool of .BIZ domains.

For those whose preferred domain isn't available in .COM, .ORG or the like though, the .BIZ extension's a useful alternative.
