I am working on a travel portal. This portal is currently having just 1 main domain. So I wanna take a step ahead to market this portal. In that view, I would like to know what the experienced guys has to say about this.
Should I develop sub-domains or small small new domains which are having country specific domain names?
I am currently looking out only in terms of organic SEO.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks for your advice.
Best Regards,

Would you rather have one PR 6 site that ranks well across a ton of keywords or dozens of PR 2-4 sites that have a difficult time competing against established authority sites?
I have seen number of sites promoting on city specific kwds with small small domains for each one.
And basically I am targetting a kwd phrase which are havin very high word counts and in turn lots of competition. So this made me to think a little bit from traffic point of view. If I split and get the same traffic in easier manner then it would be finer for me.
Or shud i stick to promoting only 1 main site.
Also this site of mine is havin 2-3 kwds targetted per page. So is it proper or not. I have targetted my main page with very high kwd count kwds and inner pages are targetted with page specific kwds. So what do u think, is it proper or not?
Look forward to your response.
Thanks.
That being said there is a flip side to that which is don't put all your eggs in one basket.
I know a friend who has a site about widgets. Widgets is a very broad and competitive category, and my friend is a widgets care expert. So he has a widget site, and a widget care site. Both sites are successful, although his main one beats the revenue of the mini one by a two digit multiple.
Notice he has two, not two hundred.
For a site to rank well, there is so much you have to do, I can't imagine any one person maintaining many sites properly, unless they have sites that don't need updating, but that is rare.
Me, I have 2 unrelated sites. I have been thinking of making a sub-topic specific site of my main one, but I just don't have the time.

Not only is that proper, it is the way to go.

In particular, check out Brett's post that outlines a theme pyramid. :)
WRT the question about kw distribution and array, have a look at this thread on themes...
Also, look at this one, which has some excellent discussion on the distribution of search targets with regard to PageRank...
Search Engine Theme Pyramids and Google
Optimising the Pyramid for PageRank

There's also a link to a large Search Engine Theme Pyramid on the above thread that is currently redirecting to a PubCon page. Hopefully, that will get fixed eventually.
The thread caveman links to shows some of the same diagram, so look at that when the Theme Pyramid is discussed.
I think I will also go for just one site and concentrate on this one itself rather then making many sub-domains/ small independent domains. The reason behind this is I have a traevl site and if I make sub domains/ small domains then it would become tougher to promote each one of them and finally would lend me into trouble by not promoting any one of them.
Let me know if there should be any other information which could be useful.
Once again thanks for the inputs.
Thanks.
