Where is the "right place"

Everyone talks about keyword density not being a major factor in SE algorithms and they say it's more a matter of putting the keywords in the right place.

Where is the "right place"?

Is it at the beginning of each paragraph, the end of each paragraph, under a linked image with the keyword in the ALT tag, to the left of a linked image with the keyword in the ALT tag, only at the top of the page, throughout the page... I've heard recommendations for all of these.

I'm really only interested in placement of the keyword in the actual textual content, but any other insight on keyword placement in other tags and attributes would be helpful as well.

You should look for tools online that give you a 'spiders eye view'. These can be run from a web page or downloaded, they will show you what order the robots will see your text in.

Also if you are not using any description tags, the bots can take your description from say your left hand side of your website. You need to run one to see what I mean.

Thanks layer8, I'm well aware of spider sims. I'm not concerned with what order they see my text in. I'm wondering where the best spot is to put keywords in the body text and I don't think a spider sim can tell me that.

storevalley, I think I followed that discussion or at least a few pages of it when it first started but I'll take another look at it and see what I can dig up.

Maybe I just misunderstood what people meant by "putting keywords in the right place". They probably meant putting them in TITLE and ALT tags where I thought they were talking about where to put them in the BODY text.
