Old domains = no placement?

Back in 2000 life was good. Placement in Google, MSN and Yahoo was fairly easy. I will be honest. Most of these sites that have 4 to 5 pages in them have not changed in 4 years. So can you throw out some ideas on what to do to make the biggest impact on the search engines now? Most of my domains have dashes between the words. Back in the day, that helped index. Is it a detriment now? Should I buy new domains with no dashes and move the site to it? Will changing the meta tags help? What about changing the content and how much content should be changed?

Any suggestions would be helpful. I haven't had placment on the first page anywhere in years.

Old domains = good rankings, actually. Newer domains tend to = lesser rankings. :)

But, if these sites have only 4-5 pages, and you have not touched them in years, they would have to be extraordinary for the search engines to still want to rank them today. Think about how much has happened in your categories since then. How many sites have been adding pages, upgrading content, getting great links, etc.

Hint, hint. ;-)
