i am working on a brand website.

I've recently advised that they point the .org & .net extensions of their domain to their .com website.

will there be any search engine penalties for this?
do i need to do anything to prevent penalties?

or is pointing multiple domains to one domain completely acceptable?

Thanks,
David.

If you use a 301 redirect to send secondary domains to the primary domain, al is well. Other approaches for "pointing" can get complicated and cause troubles.
