Dear SEO readers,

How can you explain this...
I was developing somedomain.com and when the site came live, Google ranked it PR 4 then The Site Owner paid a SEO company to promote the site...and now the site is PR 3

Any Idea what could have happened?

FYI - URL's are not allowed on WebmasterWorld.

If you don't remove it, a moderator will.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, Mystic. There's no simple answer to why a site dropped from PR4 to 3. It could be as simple as the loss of one inbound link, or the site hovering on the cusp between 3 and 4. PR is mainly determined by inbound links, although it is just one factor in determining how pages rank. These days, toolbar PR doesn't seem particularly useful.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, Mystic!

We do not do site reviews, and of course your question is unanswerable without further information.

The best thing is for you to develop some ideas about what might have happenned, and ask what we think of them. Going back and forth we may be able to reach some conclusion.

How long did the PR 4 last, when did it decrease to 3? Do you know what the SEO company did? Did they link to "link farms" or other forms of "bad neighborhood"?

Just some ideas to start your thinking.
