not sure if this is the correct forum for this, but I'll ask anyway.
I have a website that is currently written completely in HTML and appears on the 1st page on most search engines, including Google, for a lot of it's keywords.
I am currently in the process of converting the site to PHP as it really needs to be database driven. The content hasn't changed, although a new section has been added. I was wondering what effect converting to PHP would have on the search engine results. The results returned will obviously have the .htm suffix and not go to the correct page.
Can anyone give me some advise, or reassurance that what I am about to do will not jeopardise my rankings.
Thanks.
Delvsie
I'm no expert on the matter, so consider a second opinion.
Why not convert your existing htm pages to doorways once you have the PHP pages in place. I've been doing a lot of searches on my site and I'm finding old links where the page no longer exists. Rather than have my users and the spiders find a 404, I create a doorway page on the spot, keeping that link alive. Seems like you ought to be able to do something similar.
