Different server (ww2.widgets.com) seen as a subdomain?

A new major client has a site that is on a different server than their main corporate site. As a result, the page we are doing SEM for has the following URL syntax:

ww2.widgets.com/blah/blah.htm

My question is: will the search engines interpret the ww2 as a subdomain? If so, to what degree will the site be penalized?

Muchas gracias in advance!

I'm trying to find the thread where someone pointed out that www was actually a subdomain. But yeah, if this is the case then www2 would surely be considered a subdomain as well.

But a www2 subdomain isn't cause for penalty in and of itself. If www2.site.com is a duplicate of the mian site then it probably won't be indexed by Google, and they might apply a penalty if you don't do anything about it.

Does that answer your questions?
