Reciprocal Linking with other webmasters

Hi

I currently look after 7 commercial websites.

The websites are for different companies i.e. not connected.

I was considering creating and adding a links page to each website and therefore creating a reciprocal link between the 7 companies.

I wonder what the benefits would be?.

Also would there be any benefit to another webmaster here and myself doing this together, i.e. adding a links page
which includes all our websites i.e. adding 7 websites each therefore extending this reciprocal links page to 14 websites.

Is this allowed?. Would this be a good idea?

Would the links be relevant? By that I mean, would the visitors to site A be interested in the information located at site B?

No. not really i guess.

They are all commercial websites but not related in their businesses.

i.e. i have one who is an accountants firm another which is a hotel.

It would only be relevant if the visitor was looking for an accountants firm whilst also considering a holiday ;-)

From what youre saying, this is a problem?

I am not saying it is a problem, but generally 'good seo' takes the visitor into consideration. Design a good site that has relevant content (lots of it), link to other sites if there is a benefit to your visitors and the link makes some kind of sense (link farms are baaaaaaad!), use keywords in your anchor text - all these things make a good website that does get recognized by the search engines as relevant and therefore wins good positioning.

That's one theory anyway, and if you read and read and read here at Webmasterworld, you'll find lots of different theories about what works. I know that the things I've mentioned here do work, because I have personal experience that they do.

P.S. If you haven't discovered it yet, here is the best concentrated advice [webmasterworld.com]available on the general subject.
