I'm about to launch a micro-type-site (similar content)off my main site and wanted to know the best way to get listed in the Google's engine. Should I try:

1. domainname.com/searchterm

2. searchterm.domainname.com

3. searchterm.com

I like #1 and #2 as I'm already listed with Google so I won't need to wait to get ranked. Anyone have some experience in this area?

Thanks.

How close is it topic-wise? If you'll want a directory listing for it, is the main site already in? And will you be able to get links directly to that section?

The site is basically centered around travel (think something like newyork.com) and I'm going to launch a real estate section which offers information for people who are relocating to this area and would like to receive free information about the area.

The main site is already listed in directories and within Google's results. I would need to work on building links to this specific page.

Those are two challenging areas. I think I'd check through categories first to see what the chances would be for getting an additional directory listing as a sub-section. If there's extensive information it might just stand a better chance on a separate site, and also for getting into specialized and regional directories.

When is it appropriate to use subdomains like searchterm.domainname.com? What are the benefits/pitfalls?
