Hi all,
Will a search engine pick up on content that is in a sub web?.
The site i am working on at the moment has so much material i would like to break it into 4 different subwebs to make it easier to navigate but will i forego search engine capability.
Thanks

Marcia

subweb sounds like a term that's used by some kind of software. Are you referring to subdirectories on a site? Those get indexed as long as there are regular spiderable links to them so they can be found.

Thanks Marcia,
(yes vaugue question on my part)
What i was really trying to say is....
I am using frontpage2000 and it gives you the option to change a folder to a "subweb" This appears to have all the directory attributes of a normal website ie. index page etc.

I have experimented with it and its a great way to break content into catagories.

But will a search engine get down through the whol lot?
all help appreciated
Paul

if cross linked the spider should get through it okay. keep the directory architecture as shallow as possible but sub directories are good to go - maybe name those if possible keywords.

Tip: if you create your site in frontpage, remember to validate and clean out extraneous code!

Thank you guys appreciate the help.
Now about that code that frontpage creates what are the main errors it creates? What do you look for.
I have been trying to find out about this with not a lot of success
thanks Paul

Gecko:

I use FP 2002 and it works fine in Netscape and IE. Many don't like discussing Front Page because they think it's a piece of you know what. The biggest gripe by many is code bloat(adds 20-30% unneeded html from what I've learned), which I understand, and will work on it when I get more familiar with html itself.

From what I'm hearing validation isn't important at the present time, but likely in the future. It's a good idea to check FP in both major browsers to see what it looks like. I've noticed only a few small eyesores that were easy to fix. The way I look at it Netcsape and IE account for 96% of my traffic and Mozilla and Safari starting to show up. I don't know much about any of those critters...have to look into it.

Still a newbie..and learning. Btw, I've heard of a program that cuts down code bloat for FP, but I haven't looked into it. I'm doing pretty darned good with FP and my site..and thanks to this great site. Traffic has doubled in six weeks from about 2300 visitors weekly.

Yep, as far as anyones concerned its another folder, but having it as a seperate "web" is perhaps easier to maintain on your side.

Validation is extremely important. Unless of course you don't mind your site tanking in certain browsers.

When you find out let me know. You could try a Front Page forum that I know of. Sticky and I'll send you the link.
