What is the proper linking address for a home page

www.bluewidgets.com or www.bluewidgets.com/index.htm/

I am securing backlinks to my home page. What is the proper format to ensure SEs give the proper credit? Do I need to give the index.htm, and should I end everything with a forward slash? Or, would www.bluewidgets.com suffice? Thanks!

your.site/ is likely the best... its clean and you don't have to worry about if the initial page is index.htm, index.html, default.blahblah or whatever...

also, by "your.site" i mean whatever it takes to get to your site... www. leading if required...

I like the www.example.com/ with forward slash, even for linking to subdirectories. It signifies a main section and I figure if some obscure paper out there had a section about it, it can't hurt.
