Listing keywords

Is this a no-no?

Before I do something potentially stupid, I thought I'd ask...

If I place a line or two of keywords at the bottom of my homepage,(non-repetetive, and not hidden) i.e. Keywords: widgets, and lots of widget related words, am I an evil widget-merchant, destined to be penalised by the search engines?

Give me guidance, for I may be on the path to destruction...

Why do you want to put these words there?

So that search engines will pick up on the words and it will help people find my site (if they're interested in those topics)

Perhaps it would be better to place text links at the bottom of the page that serve a function. Like "widget specifications" "green widget information" and such. Just an idea.
