I thought this was taken off the "tricks" books with the Ticketmaster vs Sidewalk case in 97. Apparently not, because I'm seeing it alot. (add Compuserve search, I think) I wrote your friend Dana on this one, he shrugged it off. Apparently, the fact that everyone is so driven to get listed in a return page makes them turn a blind eye to the old frames ploy. Also, they've added the "unframe" button. Heck, if everyone is going to just accept it as OK, then I might pursue deploying it and pick up a few thousand additional impressions per day. It's pretty easy using javascript.

I'd think a site would have to be fairly well established to sustain framing. I've been thinking of trying it myself. My first thought is to override the about.com frame, and reframe back to THEM!

There is even some version of Infoseek that is using a frame. Don't know if it is webtv or what, but I've seen a Iseek frame before and I forget where I saved the url. hmm

Yes, but the precedent is there. If challenged, I'd simply answer "You'll need to enforce this with About, Ask, etc., --it's now a standard practice in the industry." I think the real legal work-around is the presence of the UNframe button, which you and I both know is NEVER used.

To top it, we could also start re-caching them (esp. Google) - how would they like that one?!

Read my mind Ralph. I've been toying with a meta search engine for quite awhile, and I keep thinking about just offering Cached Google. Then releasing the script as Freeware for any site that wants to use it Let google have a taste of how it feels to be cached all over the web.
