I have a site that is currently ranking well for one of its major keywords, which also happens to be the url. Although the domain name is descriptive, it is too long. So I created a new domain and moved all the content over there, leaving only a little bit of text remaing which says something like: SouthernCaliforniaWidgets.com has move to socalwidgets.com, please click on the link to be taken to the new site. The problem is that when I do a search for Southern California Widgets the old site still shows up first, and the new site doesn't show up at all. Is there any way to let the SEs know that socalwidgets.com is my new site, without pulling the old url off the web? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!

You can use a server side redirect: 301 or 302

Redirect 301 - how is this really done? [webmasterworld.com]

301 Domain redirect/pointing server side [webmasterworld.com]
