Forcing an SE to re-index?

Can this be done?

Hi all,

I have made some significant changes to a web site which has been around since 2000 and want to make sure that search engines re-index the site as quickly as possible ('cause I'm impatient!) and reflect the new content.

Is this at all possible? If so, how? Do I have to re-submit the site?

I'd be grateful for any help.

Thanks!

Hi and Welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com]

The best way to have search engines re-index your website is to get some good incoming links to your website but of course that takes time and it sounds like you want to get a running start, Have you thought about PPC, Pay for inclusion?

You can submit your site again but usually they ignore them and find new/changed content from links from other sites. Most search engines "refresh" their listings over set periods but also this takes time.

I think I'm correct in saying that you can't influence an SE's crawl schedule unless you use PFI - otherwise world+dog would just sit there all day making Google et al crawl their site once a day for free on the off-chance that they updated something.

Thanks both for the quick answers...

I've got a new Adwords campaign going and it's delivered a lot of click-throughs since it started but Google is not finding my new keywords. I guess it needs more time :-)

I've checked through the list on this site and it looks like SEs have a refresh time of between days and months so I'll swallow the bullet and see how long it takes!

I like Tony's post - would be a nice feature ;-)

Time to open the wallet - gulp....
