From what I have been reading in the forums around the net on SEO and google is google is trying to nutralize SEO with the constant updating of the database. I think this to be a downfall as many have stated here with the unstability of the results (How does this make results better i think it make them worse) This reminds me of the old infoseek days when results were always different cause of the 24 hour updats. SEO changing yes it is and google is just making the game more fun for all of us :-).

Some of us may have to move beyond SEO into a broader realm of Search Engine Marketing - and start including other services in conjuction, like consulting with a focus on conversion, keyword assistance for PPC, etc. We can always broaden our scope to adapt to a changing market.

Let's not forget that the shifting sands at Google may not last forever, it's liable to settle down. They've been known to be unstable during extended periods of testing. Not this long, but it *might* settle down eventually if the public starts to respond less favorably than they'd like.

Also - let's not forget that Yahoo bought Inktomi, and Ink is an optimizers delight. Yep, some more fun might just be starting, we'll just have to wait and see.

The tide always changes in the SEO world -> if you've been in it for more than a few years, you'll remember the days when "inktomi was everything" and there was no such thing as XML CPC programs, or PFI. Blah.

And, those have yet to be proven as a 'profitable' business model, as every engine that runs them has changed hands...;) Perhaps that's a signal that it's not a good idea, & part of the success @ Google?

There are always more valueable services you can give to clients in need to excellent marketing services, if you have clients, it's easy enough to upsell them when you make them $$$

Marcia,

I suspect that one of the reasons that it is taking Yahoo so long to switch is that they are making major changes to Ink. After the changes it may no longer be "an optimizers delight".
