folks,

are there any alternatives to WPG with respect to its reporting capabilities?

what i like about WPG reporting is that it gives you relevant stats, and also offers fresh news/tips for the search engine being reported against. i also like that i can run on schedule. i tad more customization to reports (some are way to verbose, and i might want to have them emailed to me).

unfortunately there are some flaws to WPG which are kind of specific to my situation and that might prevent me from using it. also, it would be nice to consider alternatives (if there are any). so far all i found were submission-oriented software, and i mostly care about reporting and optimization. well, reporting probably most important.

thanks for any ideas you might offer,

There are loads of software titles that cover this topic. A site search or search engine for "SEO Tools" will reveal what you are looking for.

chris_f,

thanks for the pointer.

i've done a fair share of research on the subject. while you are correct that there are plenty of all kinds of SEO tools out there, but what i'd like to find is a great reporting tool with the following functionality:

  • maintain a list of keywords that matter to me;
  • run position reports against each keyword, on schedule;
  • perform some (at least rudimentary) analysis against top sites in each position report;
  • perform all of the above against all major search engines;
  • have relevant news and tips available for each of the major engines.

these seem like simple requests, but i was so far unable to find a tool that would offer such features in one system (a desktop or web-based application, i dont care).

i'd also like to find a tool that would track visitors that come to my site from search engines, would make a note of what keyword combination brought the visitor to my site and then would track their path throughout the site and (that would be perfect) center all reporting around keywords. here is what i mean. a visitor came to my site by searching for "gadgets". he then went straight for "widgets" then "help" then he left. i want that path to be tracked. that gives me something to work with. or, a visitor came through "jim beam", and then went to "about" and then to list of my products and then to "widgets". that tells me that perhaps people who like "widgets" might also like "jim beam" even though i dont currently sell it. monitoring these kinds of trends seems very valuable, no? much more so than simply registering which keywords brought visitors here.

i dont necessarily need a tool to do submitting per se, nor do i need a meta-tag generator type tools. just top notch trend-registering reporting tool. and those are the ones that seem to be in short supply.

you see, i am not an SEO professional, i just run couple of sites and would like few tools to help me stay on top of this undoubtedly important business.

thank you in advance.
