SEO's and allied professionals could soon be tarred with same brush as 'snake oil salesmen'.

Remembering that we have no formal qualifications(although SEO academies are popping up). We have no real regulatory body or association as such. We have no charter.

Those of us who have been with the industry for a number of years can fall back on time served experience but as new comers and instant experts join our ranks, so will those who are in it for a quick earner ...before another one comes along.

We professionals have an obligation to the SEO industry to reach and maintain high standards and goals. It is the responsibility of each and every one of us to do this in order that the industry is not diluted and tainted by scamsters.

By maintaining a high professional standard, we automatically provide high standards for our clients and word of mouth will help build our business. It is a 'win win' situation.

Even Google publishes a 'buyer beware' statement.

We need to protect our profession from being tarred with this same brush.

Have you not heard of WAIM or SEMPO? Try some searches at Google or read about them here at WW.

I'm talking about recognised governing bodies. Thanks for your pointer though. :)

I should clarify the point about recognised bodies. I refer to industry standard, publicly recognised governing bodies. That isn't to say that various membership associations aren't recognised by those within the industry.
