I purchased a domain abc.com that links to a subdirectory within another domain I have (xyc.com/abc). How can I get abc.com to show up in the search engines?

Put content on it - I know of no way to intentionally force a search engine to index a site that is a pure redirect.
It will happen as a hiccup on occassion, but I wouldn't count on it. Better to build a site there - and work it that way, with solid, quality content. Over time, the site will attract links of it's own accord.
