I think he's been reading the 'ethics of a Return page [webmasterworld.com]' thread. At any rate, I emailed him and asked him to join in if he'd like.

I got a very nice long reply from Richard Hoy in response to a feedback letter. Thanks Richard.

Hi Brett

Most of those links give me a 404 error. Has the page location changed?

Thanks for the links.

Obviously Richard was wrong a year ago: "he guarantees "that a year from now, sorting through raw search results will be a minor way for consumers to find things on the Internet." He is still wrong now.

I think what a lot of commentators miss is that technology advances don't necessarily translate into paradigm shifts. People will continue to use search engines because they like using them. It matters not to most users that there is a roving-super-bot-shopper-2010 (beta) available for download. It requires more than a fancy idea for people to step outside their comfort zones.

Believe it or not, I know of a few people who are only just discovering search engines. My father thinks AskJeeves is great but has no idea that its a "search engine/directory", only that it is a place he can find answers to questions.

Wow feeder, you really went deep diving for thing post.

I agree with most of your comments. Ideas to replace se's are plentiful, but not work quite as well.
