When submitting a site to Google or any search engine ,
should I submit all the pages of my web site? or just the index page?

Hello Jaman and Welcome to WebmasterWorld.

You only need to submit the main page of the site. (to Google, that is, it's different for different search engines)

Take a look here for everything you ever wanted to know about Google:

Hope this helps.

thank you! I have a web site , one of the pages on the site is a store front , so I want to make sure that page gets listed.

How do I know which search engines to submit multiple pages to and which ones I should only submit my home page to (like Google).

I currently am using a system that submits to 100 different engines at the same time.

Would google think I was spaming if I submitted my store front page?

You do not want to use automated search engine submission software tools. All the major search engines spider, and it may take a month or two to pick up the rest of your site.

If you want you can submit multiple pages on different days, but you only need to submit the home page if your site has proper linking.

Still the best way to get found is by having links pointing to you from other web sites. Please carefully select link partners though.

thank you AWaLL19 for your response!

I'm still a little in the fog as to wy it's NOT good to use automated search engine submission software?

Do the major search engines spider each other? is that what you mean when you say (the major search engines spider)?

My last question is, what is the proper way to approach prospective sites to exchange links? do I send them a proposal?

Well, thanks again!

From what I have found the automated software doesn't work for the major search engines. Most of them require you to type a randomly generated code to verify that you are not using an automated software.

I also tried some of those free submission sites and ended up on a lot of spam lists. Luckily I used special e-mail addresses so I can reject most of the spam.

You can find a lot of discussions on this by doing a site search for automated search engine submission software. Here is one that I found.
