AutoSubmission - A Theoretical Problem

As we all know, using automsubmit tools are not advisable, and a great way to get your ip banned.

However, can autosubmission get your site banned from search engines themselves?

Theoretically, what if a competitor autosubmitted hundreds of URLS from your site, in the hopes of damaging your relationship and status with search engines?

What could be done to recover?

I'm not too sure there are any free submission outlets left that are of any value. Auto submitting really has no place in todays SEM, at least from my perspective. So, if someone wants to auto submit your site to thousands of search engines, what can you do? I doubt very seriously that it will cause any harm unless of course they use your email address during the submission at which time you'll end up on the spam lists.

There are typically about 8-12 primary resources that are going to bring you traffic. Nine of those are going to require payment in some form or another. The other 3 are going to want to find you on their regular crawling schedule or perform a manual submission using their form that cannot be auto submitted to.

I've not really kept up with the whole auto submission stuff as it became irrelevant a couple of years ago. If you do want to auto submit, I believe there are a few quality resources that perform this service online (ASP - Application Service Provider).

Would never dream of autosubmitting - in fact, I dont' even see the point of submitting at all, let the spiders do their work.

Was strickly hypothetical.
