Can Internet Explorer address bar keywords be bought?

The other day I got a call from a lady that was trying to sell me keywords on Internet Explorer. I didn't believe her for a moment but I am curious if there is any truth to what she said. She claimed that 40% of searches are done directly from address bar. They offered three word keywords for $250.00 US a year. They claimed that if I bought these keywords than my site would show up if I my keywords were typed into Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. I asked her for an example of keywords that I could type in and than the site would show up that had bought the keyword. She said I have to download something first. I had my fill by than because obviously I knew more about it than she did. I was under the impression that if keywords are typed into address bar on Internet Explorer that MSN search takes over. Is there any truth to what she was trying to sell me?

You have to download their browser plugin in order for it to work, and their penetration numbers are always greatly inflated. I wouldn't recommend spending any money on this..

Ha the great keywords sale. yeah I know all about these, MSn used to allow a third party to administer these key words and I suspect (MSN) payed them a commission.

Microsoft then with held payment of Millions of $$$ so the firm went broke and with it went my keywords.

So good ole Micro$oft are now repackaging the idea? Must have been more profitable than I thought.

My advice, dont buy them. They werent that successful last time around.

this time around theres a nasty smell attached to them.....

Seriously, it's not a good investment.

There's more pleasure to be had from setting fire to your cash and watching the expressions on your bar mates' faces. I'm being serious.

Thanks for your reply. I guess with a little thought I might have been able to find information on this website by doing a search. sometimes it is a little hard to get the right keywords to find what you are looking for.
