hello all,

(great forum), having just found this resource and reading the archives can I just check on something.

I have recently started work for a new company who has outsourced seo.

this seo has set up a pointer site, on a keyword-based domain which at the moment currently redirects to one of my company's site by a meta refesh.

I have requested to see the actual pages and they seem to be stalling.

Would the pointer site feature;

optimised pages for each search engine (bearing in mind se attitude to repition of content)

a link farm of some sort?

anything else?

would the refresh be set up if the pages are not finished (they have told me they had started submitting) otherwise surely the refresh would hinder rather than help.

Thanks in advance

Poised,
I doubt any SEO firm worth it's salt, is going to show you whatever "technology" they've developed to attain rankings for you company.

Some call it "cloaking", I prefer to call it "income protection" in this case... :)

Poised Welcome to WmW

Pointer domain most of the time will be pages that are Opt. for each engine.

I have to agree with RedZone. SEO's work on Success and when the have it they guard it with their lives as this is their lively hood.

Now if I worked for you as a consultant and I was doing well for your Co and you asked me to see how I was doing it I would have to decline you access as well.

>decline access

This assumes that the SEO company set up the contract so that they own the content as intellectual property.

The SEO firm is likely to own the referring domain as well, you are just renting their output.

Are your sales UP as a result of their efforts?
If not, what difference does it make?

imho

RC, Yes that would assume that the SEO Company owned the domain. Most Companies don't see the need to own more than one domain (their name) So I would have to guess that the SEO company owns the domain?

Poised. Is this true?

yes, they do own the domain,

didn't mean to cause such a reaction,

obviously don't expect people to release their tools of the trade, but having messed around with elements of seo before just wondered what the difference is and whether its possible to play around with it myself,

apologies to all

Poised,

We were not getting down on you and sorry if it came out that way :( we were just trying to explain why someone would not allow you access.(Stalling) to the pages they created etc..

Thanks Poised (welcome to the forums). I was thinking you owned the domain when you first posted this thread and was surprised by the reaction at first too.

That is part of the game with pointer domain traffic. I know it can be tough from the sites standpoint, but much of what we do is intellectual property. We spend many an hour testing and retestings, reading forums, newsletters, and chating with people just to stay abreast of what is going on. That type of time investment in brain power has to be protected.
