I have recently started looking into SEO, finding it to be a maze of trap doors and false promises i was wondering wether there is a timeline, or and estimated amount of time that should be left between submissions to different search engines, perhaops im not to clear, for instance if i submit to ODP then striaht away to goolge, yahoo so on os forth, is that better than submitting to ODP wiaitng to get listed then submitting to goodle, yahoo once im listed?

if ur confussed, maybe i am too?
what search engine/directories should i be submitting to?
any help is fab!

register for ODP and yahoo immediately.

Inclusion in ODP depends on editor and might take any time. With yahoo you can pay for an answer if they include you yes or no within seven days.

Register with google also, but freshbot - at least until recently - finds you soon when you are registered in yahoo.

google adwords seem to help with freshbot too. an new adword page I watched is still freshbot listed whilst mine disappeared...might be for other reasons but I think not.

find appropriate directories preferably with human editor to enlist your site as many as possible.

As friendly sites to list your link. Do as much as quickly as you find the time.

Success depends on the content of your site and the competition in your field.

You should submit to as many Good human edited directories as possible. Start with ODP, if your category does not have editor it will take time to get listed there. If you have the money then try paid submission in Yahoo! directory. There are lots of directories out there. Search for them in google and submit to them. You can also use the add url option of Google but for your website to remain permanently in google index you need to have some quality backlinks.

You should run a link popularity campaign and try some of these searches to help you in your link popularity :-

"Add a link" + "your keyword(s)"
"Add a site" + "your keyword(s)"
"Add URL" + "your keyword(s)"
"Add an URL" + "your keyword(s)"
"Submit a link" + "your keyword(s)"
"Submit a site" + "your keyword(s)"
"Submit URL" + "your keyword(s)"
"Submit an URL" + "your keyword(s)"
"Suggest a link" + "your keyword(s)"
"Suggest a site" + "your keywords(s)"
"Suggest URL" + "your keyword(s)"
"Suggest an URL" + "your keyword(s)"
"Your Region" + "Add url"
"your keywords" + "directory"
"your keywords" + "directories"
keyword reciprocal
keyword exchange
keyword add site
keyword resources
keyword links

"gossamer" + "keyword"

"keyword resources"

"your industry" +add url, directories,

Thanking you both, the webpage is about villas in spain, specifically an area called nerja, so quite search specific and hope to drive customers to it from google, but so many pages out there are really poorly made but still climb to the top of google! how?

My best suggestion would be to read this forum and all the threads in this forum for the last 6 months. It will help your understanding of SEO and will also hopefully help you in deciding your own SEO strategy.
