With Google looming so large, the loss of PR and/or ranking (or a complete ban) can devastate site traffic.

So what can be done to build equivalent traffic assuming -

A) site has to depend completely on non-Google traffic

B) you can't buy your traffic with ongoing PPC listings on Overture or Looksmart, or with the annual Yahoo $299

The list of things to be done would include:

1. MSN via Inktomi $40
2. Ask Jeeves/Teoma $40
3. Links from all your other sites
4. Listings in directories (ODP, goguides, joeant, specialty directories ....) to generate regular crawls by all the non-google search engines
