site traffic stimulation

is this idea worth it?

I have an idea that i wanted to float past some of those here who may have tried it already.

I have a few large relationship sites, and what i was wondering is if i was to offer giveaways like gift certificates to my sites to other types of complimentary sites to stimulate their site traffic and add to their newsletters as giveaways, how much traffic would it REALLY drive back to mine?

has anyone tried it?
did it work or was it not worth it?

I tried giveaways and prizes, but mostly for name branding. Didn't see a massive change in traffic, but for the time span that it ran for, I did get above average uniques. This was years ago though, so maybe times have changed. Why don't you try it anyway? Doesn't hurt to experiment.

both actually-

i am starting from scratch with the idea of the giveaways of gift certificates, however the sites have been up and quite successful for 5+ yrs on their own-

i dont know how to answer that-
i want to be able to stimulate site traffic to my site by working with other sites by giving them gift certificates to my site for them to give away to their clients in exchange for some sort of write up or publicity about my sites-

it helps my sites as it brings in new traffic to us, and it helps them as they have giveaways for their contests and newsletters-

You might try doing a search to see who's linking to your site(s), and then you can review these sites to determine which ones might be appropriate to approach with your offer. Some would probably love the idea, others maybe not. But you probably have nothing to lose.
