Had a client telling me how for his website some guy offered to send him a load of traffic, about 6000 unique visitors a day and that he could turn it off and on, (he agreed to this, got a load of traffic but no clients from it)
What trick would this guy be doing then where he can just turn traffic on and off?
cheers guys

It's pretty easy to falsify traffic, especially with the same IP and just rotating User Agents, following by some fake referrer variables.

Without knowing more, it's pretty tough to say. Lots of things can give you 'spurious traffic' but without conversion, as you said, it's worthless.

The log files / and a good stats program / should give you the answer...if not and no referrers are to be found, it could have been an email blast, forum drop, or what not.

Any number of things, really. :)

um, NO, they might NOT have gotten scammed.

I didn't say that. Check your clients log files - with a good stats package.

Without doing that, we can make all the 'educated guesses' in the world, and still come up with the wrong answer.

:) Cheers.
