We are getting enormous traffic these days and I was wondering when Alexa updates it's stats for the 3 monthly average. Any ideas?

It has been sporatic lately at best. It used to be daily, but now it appears to be weekly, and maybe even every two weeks. It's been two weeks since they've updated it. They are suffreing some growth pains. Ever dice the logs of millions of toolbar users?

So their "traffic" just applies to people surfing with the Alexa toolbar? Considering that 1 in a thousand (10,000?) use it, I guess it's safe to say that that Alexa traffic trend is about as worthless as Google's page rank....?

Word is that over 20 million have dl'd and installed the toolbar. (unknown how many of them use it daily, but last year it was over 7 million daily users).

At this point I find the data more valuable to me than my own logs in many respects. That is never more true than when surfing the competition because the demographics are the same.

I would like to see Alexa expand the offering to include other data sets they can build out of the toolbar data.

Alexa toolbar is webmaster-orientated and so it may well be useful to WW and it's competitors who are going for webmaster traffic. But if you're not going for webmasters the data is practically useless. I downloaded the toolbar and surfed through five pages on one site in quick succession every day for a week. The alexa ranking went up over 100k in the same week.

By the way, looks like our 3 month trend ranking just went up. :)

I don't think it's a tech crowd with the toolbar. I think it is just the opposite. If I had to guess as to the demographics:

- more women than men.
- 60% office workers.
- average to below average tech skills.

But if they have such a widespread demographic, how come the figures are so easy to manipulate? I appreciate that many people with the toolbar are not your net-savvy user, but I think it's the webmasters that crank up the page views.
