I've been lurking here for a while - thought it was about time I joined and popped my head over the parapet and say hello.
I'm not a professional web developer, although I do build the odd websites for friends, nothing commercial and usually niche markets. So my sites almost always do well in the google rankings.
I'm in the middle of one at the moment - again, niche market, but a friend and me have really built an exceptionally good site (even if we say so ourselves!) - slick, ultra-professional, clean and simple and content content content.
We launched it about two weeks ago and have had nearly 7,000 individual vists (not hits) - as I said, niche marketplace here, we're not doing MP3's or anything!
Interestingly, and I suppose this is my question, we're not indexed in google yet, but we come up on the first page (about 4th or so) on a whole number of our keywords (which are, of course, in our index page).
Because we're not indexed, I can't find out how many inbound quality links we have. I know of 7 (the top seven in this marketplace) that have linked to us immediately they heard what we were up to (we'll revolutionise the market we're in) and I guess that's where they're coming from.
But google only seems to have info on our main index page which is a shame, because the content is pretty good deeper in the site (all simply links to get through by the way).
So is there anyway I can pursuade google to freshbot the deeper pages or do I have to wait for teh main google dance?
Incidentally, I use the word "marketplace" but this is not a commercial site - it's hobby based and we do not sell anything. It's just for fun and to give people info on something in particular we're doing.
Many thanks, and I hope to stick around, learn some stuff and be able to contribute more positively here in the future!
Regards,
D
So is there anyway I can pursuade google to freshbot the deeper pages or do I have to wait for teh main google dance?Well, me thinks you gotta wait. I'm not totally sure, but my recollections don't bring up 'force-feeding' googlebot anything.
In any case, there will be others along with more specific information for you.
Pendanticist.
Seems like just posting the message on here did the trick - being "deep-crawled" by googlebot right now.... we saw the "guest" users on the site go insane and couldn't work out what was going on at first! lol
Not bad, we've only been online three weeks.
It seems to be navigating around ok - it's been into all the important stuff I wanted indexed.
Thanks,
D
