All those SE's on the web... And most of them are partners, sisters, daughters. Overture to buy FAST and AV.
How many (different) databases are out there? If you look at the list below. Are that all different databases? Who can match them together?

I don't care about who is who!
As for me I just submitt to Google, AltaVista, Inktomi and FAST and optimize for Google.
These power the bulk of the other SE and search function on directories and portals world wide.
I avoid to use PPC or AdWords if possible.
Apart from that I submitt to Yahoo and Dmoz.

And then it will somehow show up in the other search engines, because they are all related. Right?
Or am I missing some very important SE's here?

Exactly!
Sure there are other search engines which do not use any of the major search engines, but they represent a smaller portion of the search engine traffic on the Internet.
The trick is of course to get traffic from these four.
