Hi

Im a fairly new webmaster and after spending lots of time getting my site search engine ready, making it as key word rich as I could I sat back and waited for the google dance to begin..
Oh wot fun that was :p
I have only managed placing of between 12 and 42 for my main keywords generating very little traffic...
but I have found sites above me are using doorway pages made with doorway page wizard targeting the main key words..
Is it ok to use doorway wizard? a free program that makes you keyword rich doorway pages that redirect to you home page as soon as someone clicks on them. Im worried this might be considered spamming...Has anyone ever used this program? How do search engines feel about redirect pages?

thanks for reading

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, spanker.

It's a good way to get your site deeply into trouble. It's also a good way to drive your users mad.

Hello spanker

Welcome to WebmasterWorld

Doorway pages created by software are serious spam as far as I am concerned. Just think content and you wont go far wrong. If you make each page unique and full of text that is mirrored in the title, heading and paragraph text you wont go far wrong.

You could create a site map that points to the main sections of your site or possibly every page depending how large your site it.

Stick around here, do a bit of reading and you will far out perform and of your competitors who may be using doorways.

Cheers

thanks for your replies guys..

Ok so I have taken on board your advise and hand made myself just 8 gateway pages, content rich mirroring the title and each page aiming at just one main keyword phrase, I have linked them all together with an index page, again very content rich... I have then made them all redirect to my main homepage as I don't want my customers looking at these pages..

My problem now is getting the search engines to find these pages

I have put them in folders like so

www.mymainpage/newfolderfor-gatewaypages/index

is this the best way to do this... and do I need to submit this link to search engines or will the spiders pick it up themselves?

Am i going about this all the wrong way?

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, spanker. ;)

Drop down to one page as the so-called "gateway".

You achieve nothing by having more of the same thing.

Note: just because you see someone doing something doesn't make it right and as heini suggests:

It's a good way to get your site deeply into trouble. It's also a good way to drive your users mad.

adding... the software didn't make for a bad strategy -- the strategy is just bad.

I would have to say yes :)

Forget doorways and all of that sort of thing and start thinking content. A page full of good unique content for one of your desired terms will trounce doorway pages in the long run.

Think of another factor, would you link to another sites doorway page. I think not, you would link directly to their content. From that point of view others wont link to your newly created doorways pages.

Cheers
