Hi everyone. I have a competitor that is using my domain name as his Meta title and is causing confusion for my customers. His company name is similar to mine. It has a city name and a product name. Where as mine has the same city name but a different product. I have had the same company name for 33 years and I own two domain names blue widgets and blue widget. I contacted him and he said he would take it down but two months have passed and now I think the only recourse is legal action? Do I even have a leg to stand on? Thanks for any help you can provide.

I very much doubt it, the Meta Title should display what the site does, and if the words are generic then I cannot see how you would be able to do anything.

If the name is a registered trademark sure thing... if not -- won't hold water.

Regardless, seek legal advice from a professional... WebmasterWorld members are really the wrong group to get sound legal advice from (other than saying, seek legal advice).

I realize most here are not lawyers, but I was hoping some of you might have had someone steal your buisness name and use it as a Meta title. Don't worry I have my attorneys working on it already.

Stealing a business name when discussing things in abstract is rather subjective.

The only clear 100% guarantee that any action taken will succeed is if trademarked & registered in the country the perpetuator resides in.

It a duck shoot otherwise. (some hits, some misses).
