Hi, I am trying to figure out what some of my competitors are ranking higher than I am...

My home page is called index.htm but most of my competitors are mainkeyword.htm could this be improving their ranking over mine? Any suggestion, should I renmame my index and if I do won't I have problem with what is already in the cache of the search engines?

Thanks

It is an interesting concept, I don't see why it should affect your ranking. Use a custom 404 or pernamenent redirect on the page to transfer current listings to the new page.

I am not sure that a default page of keyword.htm is giving any benefit in the rankings.

Hi,
The name of your file shouldn't make a difference when it comes to search engine placements.
The Title of the document however does! Pick a good title!
It also doesn't matter about the extension whether it's .htm, .html, .asp or .php this will not affect your listings!

Hope this helps!
