Message Too Old, No Replies

I have dropped from #1 to #5 for my keyword

The top 4 are all 1 company; 4 domain names

Any advice? Should I just be grateful to be on the first page or should I get more domain names and more sites, or what? Thanks so very much.

Be grateful, and figure whether you'd be willing to promote more sites. If those other sites are unique and not duplicates they haven't technically broken any rules, even if they're from the same company.

If its on Google, it may spring back to #1 spot in a few days. Google updates its index every month and in between creates temporary indexes too. Have you heard of Google Dance?

Yes, I have. I must admit that in spite of much reading, I am still a bit confused.

BTW, I added about 15 pages within the last 2 weeks. How soon will I likely see them show up SERPs?

Kimberly, it is confusing until it's all digested, but all of a sudden it falls into place. There are links here to some of the essential basics

[webmasterworld.com...]

Pages added in the last couple of weeks should show up at the end of February, so just continue to work on the site, work on quality links, and give it a little time. #5 is very good, you're doing something right.

And welcome to WebmasterWorld, by the way!

Hey, but i read the discussion! Is it correct to use different domain names for the same site?

>corect
Correct is a matter of perception. Having the same pages under different domains is something that very easily triggers the duplicate content filters at search engines and will consequently be reduced to one listing or even a penalty.

>#1 to #5 for my keyword

I just scratch my head at sites that follow only one keyword. Even those big affiliate sites that are single task sites can target a few dozen keywords. Those side kw's can be the real roi generators.

So sorry to be misleading... I have many, many, many key phrases. Generally, I try to make each page target differently. I should have said "one of my key phrases"

No need to sweat a drop from #1 to #5 Kimberly. You may see a decrease in traffic on that particular keyword but the difference between 1 and 5 from an optimization point of view is probably very minimal.

Adding more content to your site is a much more productive and long term approach than sweating it out over 1 keyword.

Some months you may drop down to #40 for no apparent reason. Even then it may just be temporary. Google may be playing with their ranking algorthm.

If you drop out of the top-20 for multiple keyowrds for an extended period of time then it might be time to take another look and see if there is anything that can be done.
